Volunteer Coordinator

 

This position manages our volunteers and schedules the patient pet visits with the volunteers. You work directly with the patient family and hospital unit staff. You are part of the volunteer training team.  You take an active role in fundraising. This position is considered part of ZPFH management.


Qualifications:

  • Great organizational skills   

  • People supervision experience

  • Computer skills: word, excel, email, cell phone, fax machine

  • Must be available on an irregular schedule

  • Must have own reliable transportation

  • Love of pets and believes in the Human Animal Bond

Foster Pet Program Coordinator

This position manages our Foster Pet Program and works directly with patient family and unit staff. You will coordinate the special requirements of the pets and work directly with our foster homes to provide the best possible care for the patient's pet. You will be a part of the volunteer training team. You take an active role in fundraising. This position is considered part of ZPFH management.


Qualifications:

  • Has experience building a cohesive team

  • Can recruit foster homes

  • Great organizational skills

  • People supervision experience

  • Computer skills: word, excel, email, cell phone, fax machine

  • Must be available on an irregular schedule

  • Must have own reliable transportation

  • Must participate with fund raising

  • Love of pets and believes in the Human Animal Bond

Therapy Dog Certification Testing


Do you believe that your dog is great with all people and other animals? Have you often thought your dog would make a great Therapy Dog? You are required to volunteer directly with ZPFH or with a reading program, hospice or nursing home with your Therapy Dog. Here is your chance to have your pooch tested. 

Qualifications:

  • must be bomb proof and can maintain a friendly demeanor in all situations

  • must sit, down and stay on command and remain in those positions until released

  • comes when called

  • recovers quickly from sudden noise or movement

  • can maintain that friendly, outgoing, happy attitude while being petted many times

  • welcomes hugs

  • can work in close proximity to other therapy dogs

  • willing to be handled by someone other than owner(s)

Magdalena (Magda) Wiersma

Magda worked as a Registered Nurse
for 50 years and has been retired for the last 5. She volunteers with challenged adults, elderly people, as well as ZPFH.
She enjoys gardening, travel, family history scrapbooking, and socializing with
family and friends.

Samantha Clark

Samantha Clark is our creative lead with years of experience in marketing, branding and design. She's travelled to unique destinations like India and Myanmar, and often spends her weekends enjoying watercolour painting, outdoor yoga classes and craft beer. Samantha lives in Toronto with her partner Kyle and two loving, adopted kitties.

Magdalena (Magda) Wiersma

Meet Our (outstanding) Volunteers

Donna Jenkins

Donna Jenkins was raised in Roswell, Georgia and was a Public Relations professional and owned a trucking company. When Zachary was diagnosed with Hodgin's Lymphoma, Donna retired to be his full-time caregiver with her husband, Lyle. Donna leads the 100% volunteer team to make Zachary's vision come true.

Lyle Jenkins

Lyle's love of Zachary and support for Zachary's Paws For Healing has been unwavering. He heads up the cat foster program and also volunteers for patient-pet visits, fundraising, and volunteer recruitment. Our visiting crates are provided by Lyle, who modifies them to be safely rolled through the hospitals.

Terri Goulding

Terri serves as Vice President and Secretary on the Board of Directors. Since January of 2016, she has been a valuable asset by fundraising, program management, scheduling family pet visits, co-ordinating and training volunteers, conducting quarterly volunteer meetings and publishing quarterly newsletters. Terri’s constant companion is her miniature poodle Teddy and she loves spending time with her three adult children.

Kim Jackson and Bob

Kim is enjoying retirement after 34 years of working. She and her husband enjoy travelling and have  taken many nice cruises including the Panama Canal. Bob enjoys his hospital visits and his main interests are eating and sleeping!

Jennifer Nixon-Edwards

Jennifer loves animals, spending time with her young family, reading, cooking and watching psychological thriller detective series with subtitles. She lives for travelling and has visited close to 40 countries. She works in the health-care field in a Toronto hospital.

Cheryl Weston

Cheryl is a Therapy Dog Volunteer. She's enjoyed many years of fostering and rehabilitating dogs with global anxieties, volunteering as a Puppy Raiser for National Service Dogs and handling dogs in the conformation ring. When not participating in her dogs Kachina, Carche and Aoife's sports (scent work, dock diving, water rescue) she often spends her weekends enjoying skijoring, snow shoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, reading and time with her family.

Beatrice Dabolins

Beatrice is a retired educator who loves bringing people their pets while they're in the hospital. She likes to travel, especially to the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean. She resides in the Hamilton area and enjoys cycling its trails and working on yoga.

Lisa Mullan

Lisa Mullan has been a visitation volunteer with ZPFH since 2017. Having recently undergone treatment for cancer, she understands how important it is to both patients and pets to maintain contact during times of difficulty. Lisa is enjoying life to it’s fullest these days, and spends her time practicing yoga, running, or volunteering with charities and her daughter’s school. She lives in Hamilton with her husband Rob, their two children, and her dogs Mya and Noodle.
